i`m not sure if any on this board has seen the show " crossing-over with john edwards" but for some strange reason the show fascinates me.
if you have not seen the show its basically a guy who does readings for people in a studio audience who have had loved ones die, 'crossing-over' to the next realm.
he then connects with these dead people offering up clues to their passing and only personal things that close family would know about .

The only special power that guy has is the one to make the people believe whatever crock he's saying!
I tell you, people want so desperately to believe and have closure that they'll make themselves believe anything, if only to look good on camera.

i was asked by my mother today "are you going to the memorial this year".
i declined most graciously and said thank you for thinking of me, and although i haven't been for the last eight years i thought no more of the ritual invitation.. then suddenly it dawned on me that my mothers response was quite abrupt and something along the lines of "well i have done my christian duty by asking you".
it was if she was literally washing the blood from her hands and she had tried to save me yet again.. has anyone else experienced this my mother has always talked to me with all civility about the "truth", i just wondered if there is new counsel now in how to deal with daughters and family that have fallen by the wayside.. appreciate your help.

after reading megadudes review of what he thought of the movie, i really want to see it now.. gore doesn't really bother me in movies, like braveheart, saving private ryan etc.
i hate the slasher movies for the sake of gore thou.. i guess i am the type of person that is so curious about everything, that even if it is gorey, i would want to know what jesus went thru, as painful as it may be to watch.. but should you let your children see it........ since i havent seen it , i was wondering for those who have seen it,,,,,,,,would you let your kids see it?.
what age,,do you think is appropriate ?
Kind of a heavy subject matter for kids. I think over 14 years old kids would be able to handle it pretty good.

most people have left the organization because of emotional issues.
the feeling that there is no real love or fellow feeling seems to get at people.
it gnaws at them.
Although I haven't left physically yet, once I left mentally, I entered a wonderful state of tranquility.
It's really nice not to have to worry anymore about silly field service hours, or regular meeting attendance, or giving parts in the school, etc. So very nice to just come home, peacefully change into more comfy clothes and start preparing dinner, or just plain lay around watching some tv show, and not have to rush around like crazy because God-forbid I should miss even one meeting and not be there like 40 mins before it starts so that I could mingle with everybody.
As time passes by it gets better and better, more and more peaceful.

all those wasted weekends.. you know, i never completely understood why they have to have 2 assemblies every year and then the big convention.
i always dreaded each one.

A lot of visible mental illness in my actual cong, and more so in my old cong.
For starters, the PO is a nut with no people skills whatsoever. The elder in charge of the ministerial school is another kookie, and people recognize it openly and even make fun of him. The elder that conducts the watchtower study is crazy, obsessed with the end and someone that doesn't have any type of life outside of the WTBTS and wants everybody to behave just as he does or else he marks them as 'spiritually weak'; this last particular one calls people late at night or really early in the morning to talk about kingdom hall related stuff. There's a couple of ministerial servants that behave nutty also, and the funny stuff is that all of these people's kids are mentally ill too, some physically as well and that's sad.
In the congregation I used to attend, in the New England area, the number of people with mental illness outnumbered the normal people. I used to always complaint about that, and it discouraged me greatly.
How can an outfit supposedly belonging to the Almighty be led in its majority by nuts???!!!
